He is an avid hiker and has been on treks to places such as Machu Picchu in Peru, the glaciers of Patagonia in Chile and Argentina and the back country and swamps of the Brazilian Amazon jungle. He is also a certified Advanced PADI scuba diver, and is currently making plans to dive the Galapagos Island in Ecuador where Darwin did his initial study on evolution.
